Resident Perception and Willingness to Pay for the Restoration and Revitalization of Urban Rivers

River revitalization, also called river restoration, has been implemented globally to restore urban ecosystems that would benefit both the environment and local residents in various ways. The Hong Kong government attempting revitalize rivers; however, perception value of restoration have not assessed. With application a contingent valuation method, questionnaire survey was designed capture attitude, place attachment, willingness pay (WTP) context rivers proposed scenario for revitalization is given. relationships among WTP, attitude attachment were explored through regression analysis. A total 400 samples collected from residents, over 75% respondents willing scenario. results analysis indicated dependence, identity, social bonding positively influenced WTP bid amounts. In contrast, effect unexpectedly found be negatively correlated with WTP. Implications drawn these results, recommendations made concerning features restored conserved future work need provide quality nature-based spaces citizens.
